Our Story

Maritime SheEO offers a bouquet of services focusing on the business case for diversity. It aims to create solutions that can impact the maritime and allied industries – with a focus on diversity & inclusion (D&I), leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship and competitive advantage.

We work with organisations to create a level playing field for women and environment conducive for women to rise to leadership positions. Our team of experts employ D&I initiatives to address and eliminate unconscious bias, conduct gender sensitisation programs and help with the smooth transition of women from ship to shore positions. We have conducted important research to highlight the business case for diversity.

 Our goal is to increase the participation of women and eliminate all forms of biases in the Maritime Industry. By highlighting the best practices in the Industry, we aim to build a robust list of resources for the industry to use related to diversity, create recommendations and guidelines for increasing the capacity of women in the industry by promoting diversity, inclusion & open-mindedness.

 We actively engage with industry stakeholders, government agencies, and advocacy groups to foster a culture of diversity and inclusion across the maritime sector. Through strategic alliances and collective efforts, we aim to create an ecosystem where every individual, regardless of gender, background, or status, has equal opportunities to thrive and contribute to the success of our industry.

The Founder

Maritime SheEO is the brainchild of our founder Sanjam. An advocate for Diversity in the Maritime Industry, she is the “go to” person for gender issues in the Indian maritime industry as well as overseas. Passionate about driving change, she launched Maritime SheEO in August 2019.

She has been working in the maritime industry since 2001 and is a Director of Sitara Shipping Ltd. Afounder member of Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) India, she is alsocurrently Exco member of WISTA International. She’s a member of the Executive Board of Directors ofthe World Maritime University based in Malmo, Sweden.

In 2014, she was honored as the "Leading Woman in Shipping Business" by the International Women’s Leadership Forum. Serving as an Ambassador of Sailor Society in India, she's dedicated to seafarers' welfare. In 2018, she collaborated on the “Diversity Handbook” with WISTA International, ISWAN, and Anglo Eastern. Recognized for her commitment to gender equality, she received the Sandvik Gender Award. In 2019, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals awarded her "Woman of the Year.

In June 2019 she was invited as part of a High Level panel initiative by The Norwegian Prime Minister, Erna Solberg for a Sustainable Ocean Economy, comprising a group of world leaders from coastal states committed to ocean action in support of the Sustainable Development Goals. She is a member of
the Diversity Committee constituted by the International Chamber of Shipping. In February 2020, she was named as one of the top 100 women in shipping by All About Shipping UK.
